What tape formats are you able to transfer to digital?
The two tape formats we currently are equipped to transfer to digital are VHS and Hi8. We hope to expand to Mini DV in the near future so be sure to check back with us to see if that option has become available. If there is another media format you'd like to see added please email us at info@yourstoryvideo.ca to let us know so that we can look into the possibility of adding in the future as well.
What if my videos are in bad condition, are you able to repair them?
Our service is to provide a safe and efficient transfer of your VHS and Hi8 videos to an easily playable digital format (MP4). While we handle all provided media with care to help ensure it is not damaged in the transfer process, we cannot improve the quality of the video. If we come across a tape with severely damaged or non-transferable video footage on it, we will not complete the transfer and notify you of the issue, ensuring you only pay for the videos we are able to successfully transfer.
How long will the transfer process take?
The length of time it takes for us to fully complete your transfer will depend on the number of tapes you provide. In general we are able to complete all transfers within 2-3 weeks of receiving the original tapes, but we will always give you a more accurate expectation when booking with us to ensure you are comfortable with the expected timeline for conversion.
Do you offer bulk discounts?
Yes, we do offer bulk discounts on larger orders or combined multi-family orders. Please book a free consultation with us online, or email us at info@yourstoryvideo.ca to discuss a bulk pricing deal for your specific larger transfer project.
Can you transfer any VHS or Hi8 video file to digital for us?
Our service is designed to transfer family home videos from VHS or Hi8 to digital (MP4). We cannot reproduce or digitize any copyright protected content, such as movies or TV shows, whether they are original copies or versions you once recorded off of TV. Please book a free consultation or contact us at info@yourstoryvideo.ca if you'd like to ask about a particular video file you'd like to have transferred to find out whether or not we can help you with it.
Do you keep a copy, share or show my videos with any third party?
At no part of the transfer process do we share or show your videos to any third party. We only store a digital copy of transferred videos in-house for 3 months after the digital files are delivered to you as a backup should you experience any issues with playback. After the 3 month mark, all of your video files are deleted from our system. Please note that the transfer process does require a member of our staff viewing the footage as it is transferred to ensure the transfer is completed successfully. For that reason, please do not share any video content that you are not comfortable with our team viewing.
Can you transfer my videos to a DVD or other video formats?
Our primary service is to transfer your VHS and Hi8 videos to an MP4 - the most widely used format for digital video media. If you prefer an alternate digital format please contact us, but we cannot transfer the files to a DVD at this time.
